Why Etruschibologna Exists
Etruschibologna is a small independent blog about the Etruscans and the long story of the land around Bologna, written for curious readers rather than specialists. It is for travellers planning a museum visit, students looking for a clear starting point, and local people who walk past old stones every day and wonder what they are.
Three strands of the story
Articles fall into three areas: ancient history, archaeology, and art and heritage. They feed one another. A burial find makes more sense once you know the society that produced it, and an object in a display case means more when you know how it came out of the ground.
- Ancient History follows the Etruscan cities, their trade, their neighbours and the way their world gave way to Rome.
- Archaeology explains how sites are excavated, how finds are dated and why a single tomb can change an interpretation.
- Art & Heritage looks at bronzes, ceramics, museum collections and the work of protecting old places for the future.
Our approach
We aim for plain language and clear context. Statements are checked against excavation reports, museum catalogues and scholarly publications, and we try to separate what is well established from what is still argued over. Archaeology is full of open questions, so some pages will say that a date or a reading is uncertain.
Interpretations shift as new digs and studies appear. Articles are revisited and revised when newer work changes the picture, or when opening hours and displays described in a visitor piece have changed.
Who reads it
You do not need a degree or any prior knowledge of Etruscan life. If you can read a museum label, you can follow these pages, and links between articles help you go deeper when you want to.
